Coronavirus: TN Police Makes Enormous Arrests for Violating Curfew

Tamil Nadu Police have filed a case against 15,610 people in violation of curfew in Tamil Nadu along with the fact that they have arrested 17,668 people. The effects of the coronavirus in India has killed many civilians so far where 26 people have died across the country and 979 people have been tested positive for the virus. Specifically in the state of Tamil Nadu, 41 victims have been affected.

The Tamil Nadu government has extended their previous Section 144 ban till April 15. Section 144 is a criminal code which forbids an assembly of more than five people where people are held against for holding public gatherings and bearing arms. The people in Tamil Nadu have been following Section 144 for the last five days. Also, the police have released some information regarding the number of registered cases, and the number of vehicles and arrests that have been made during the time of this ban.

Although the police have arrested thousands of people, on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, it is stated that those who wish to travel to Chennai for emergencies can apply. According to the Tamil Nadu Police, about 5 thousand people have applied for the trip so far.
