The Tamil Nadu government has made their announcement that people who were the root cause for spreading the coronavirus and the staff involved in corona detention will be sentenced to 2 years.
In terms of those who traveled from abroad since february 15, the government stated they must isolate themselves at home and will face a six-month prison sentence for violation. Also, the government has warned that the spread of false information could create a panic in the community and up to 2 years in prison.
The Government of Tamil Nadu issued a statement that this limit will be proceeded as per Section 270 of the Indian Criminal Act. From this section, anyone who is knowingly spreading or is responsible for the spread of a potentially life-threatening virus will be sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine or both.
On the other hand, India’s official criminal code of India states that under Section 269 of the Indian Penal Code, a person will be sentenced to six months in jail for violating a government order and engaging in or actively transmitting the deadly virus. For those travelers who are already responsible for bringing the virus into India, they are currently in solitary confinement and have been declared to be sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and a fine, or both, according to Article 271 of the Indian Criminal Code.
